Long-Distance Lancair: EAAer Sets Unofficial Flight Distance Record
It's been quite a long week for Bill Harrelson, EAA 257277, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. He flew his modified Lancair IV (N-6ZQ) from Grissom Air Reserve Base, Indiana, to Hawaii, then from Honolulu to Guam, and Guam to Florida - totaling 38 hours, 29 minutes aloft over a distance of 7,051 nm! I received a solicitation from my auto insurance company offering at least a 5 percent discount if I would install a tracking device in my car. The device would use GPS, and perhaps cellphone tower triangulation, to monitor all of my driving. Although I have been flying with this level of monitoring for decades, having some insurance company snoops looking at my every move behind the wheel is still a little creepy.

Zenith Blog Update ZENITH 750 BLOG: Slats Complete!
The EAA Zenith project continues to make significant progress: Another milestone occurred at this week's (March 6) build session as the slats were completed. A potential roadblock was overcome when we discovered a crucial note in the instructions was missed when assembling the first rib. But we caught it in time to avert a potential domino effect and we didn't have to replace any parts.

Work on the fuselage is scheduled to start on Saturday, and EAA members in the Oshkosh area are welcome to stop by the Weeks Hangar and see how our project is progressing. Read more >>   : :   Recent posts >>

Helicopter Helicopters Have a New Home at AirVenture
The Helicopter Association International (HAI) and EAA have made a joint commitment to give helicopters a new prominence at EAA's AirVenture. The two organizations inked a three-year deal to keep HAI's HELI-CENTER located near the AirVenture flightline, not far from Phillips 66 Plaza. Read more >>

Pelton, EAA Staff Meet With Government Officials in D.C.
Over the past two weeks members of EAA's advocacy and safety staff, as well as Chairman Jack Pelton, have been involved in several important meetings in Washington, D.C. The meetings come during a tumultuous time in our nation's capital, which has seen indiscriminate spending cuts triggered by the so-called sequestration last week with a deadline for an agreement for funding the government later this month. AirVenture Museum Lecture Series AirVenture Museum Lecture Series:
Flying the North Atlantic - Thursday, April 18

Follow the trail of early aviators traversing the far North Atlantic air route as Jeff Skiles, EAA vice president of chapters and youth education, recounts his journey from Toronto to Switzerland in a rare Junkers Ju 52 tri-motor. The lecture will be held in the museum's SkyScape Theater starting at 7 p.m. and is free of charge to EAA members. 2013 National General Aviation Award Winners Named
The General Aviation Awards program has named its 2013 national award recipients: Bill Fifles, Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year; Bruce Lundquist, Avionics Technician of the Year; Dean Eichholz, Certificated Flight Instructor of the Year; and Mark Madden, FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) Representative of the Year. Cessna TTx First Production Flight Made by Cessna TTx
Cessna's first production model TTx made its first flight last Saturday, March 2, the company reported Wednesday. The single-engine, four-place composite aircraft was announced last April at Sun 'n Fun as the Corvalis TTx, claiming to be the fastest single-engine fixed-gear production airplane. Read more >>
