A Blockbuster Week for Oshkosh!

With just 86 days until EAA AirVenture 2013 opening day, it's been a busy week in Oshkosh. EAA received confirmation of three major attractions. Disney is giving a special preview screening of its new animated comedy adventure, Disney's Planes, to be shown at the EAA Fly-In Theater on Friday, August 2. Chicago will return to perform on opening day, July 29, at Phillips 66 Plaza. And finally, luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Breitling confirmed that Yves "Jetman" Rossy will make his first public U.S. flights this summer at AirVenture. You won't want to miss this premier event! Rossy and the Jets
In November 2011, Yves "Jetman" Rossy flew his jet-powered carbon-fiber wing in formation with two L-39C Albatros planes from the Breitling Jet Team over the Swiss Alps. Rossy confirmed this week his appearance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013.

Little Toot Aaron Tippin Will Fly Original Little Toot to Oshkosh
As many EAAers know, country music legend Aaron Tippin is a multiengine- and instrument-rated pilot, A&P, and a helicopter pilot. He's joining the Little Toot airplane family as he and Tommy Meyer, son of Little Toot designer George Meyer, are partnering to bring back the airplane to its proper place in aviation history. J. Mac McClellan Blog MAC'S BLOG: Where Does Outer Space Begin?
This week the rocket motor on the Scaled Composites-built SpaceShipTwo was fired in flight for the first time. The Burt Rutan-designed rocketplane accelerated beyond Mach 1 and reached an altitude of about 55,000 feet during the short rocket burn. It was an important step in testing what will probably be the first civilian craft to carry passengers into space. Price of a passenger ticket is said to be $200,000.

SpaceShipTwo SS2 Makes First Powered Flight, Goes Supersonic
SpaceShipTwo completed its first successful powered flight above the Mojave Air and Space Port, Virgin Galactic reported Monday. Paired with mothership WhiteKnightTwo, SS2 took off just after 7 a.m. PDT, was lifted to an altitude of 47,000 feet MSL, and was then released. Read more >>

House, Senate Pass ATC Funding Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday passed a bill earlier approved by the Senate that would fund air traffic operations throughout the country for the rest of the FAA's fiscal year and end the furloughs that had delayed significant numbers of flights over the past week. Read more >>

EAA Air Academy Openings for EAA Air Academy Advanced/SportAir Camp
Do you know a young person with a budding interest in homebuilding? Then EAA's Air Academy Advanced/SportAir Camp is for them! This all-new aviation camp, held August 12-18, is designed to interest and challenge youth ages 16-19. Campers will learn basic composite building and fabric covering techniques using hands-on applications in the workshop.
