EAA To Review FAA Move On Medical Certification Rulemaking
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is calling the Federal Aviation Administration's announcement to begin a formal rulemaking process on expanding medical self-certification for pilots a good initial step, and supports any initiatives to modernize the aviation medical certification system for recreational flying.

Cherokees to Oshkosh Cherokees to Oshkosh Schedules Mini Clinics
In preparation for its mass arrival to AirVenture 2014, Cherokees to Oshkosh has announced several mini-clinics in the coming weeks. Participation in the group arrival requires pilots to attend a mini-clinic listed on the Cherokees to Oshkosh website. Pilots not planning to join the group at Waupaca or Oshkosh this summer are invited to attend a clinic. Please contact the host of the clinic you would like to attend and advise them you wish to observe the training only. You'll meet some great pilots, and may even decide to register and fly the mass arrival to AirVenture 2014, scheduled for Friday, July 25, at 1 p.m. Departure airport is Waupaca, Wisconsin (PCZ). There is still room and you can sign up at the website.

The FAA announced that it has begun the rulemaking process to change the requirements for a third-class medical certificate for private flying. No details have been announced, but the FAA said it is still considering the EAA/AOPA petition to allow a driver's license to replace the third-class for private flying in basic airplanes. Repairman Inpection Repairman Inspection Course Slated After AirVenture
FAA regulation §65.107 allows the owner of an experimental light-sport aircraft to earn a Repairman (LSA) Inspection rating by attending an FAA-accepted course. Immediately following EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014, Rainbow Aviation, of Corning, California, will conduct its two-day (16 hours) Repairman (LSA) Inspection Airplane course for EAA members in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Tecnam Tecnam Astore Appears at Lakeland
Tecnam U.S. Inc. surprised Sun 'n Fun attendees in Lakeland this week by displaying its latest light-sport aircraft, Astore at its opening day media briefing. The low-wing airplane received special airworthiness certification from the FAA last week, allowing American customers to take delivery of them. Tecnam has delivered 30 Astores in Europe since its debut at the AERO Expo 2013. Read more >>
