EAA Welcomes Full B-17 Crew for Special Flight
EAA's Boeing B-17G Aluminum Overcast has made many memorable flights throughout the country, but one would be hard-pressed to come up with one more special than what occurred on Monday afternoon, April 14, in Oshkosh. Ten World War II United States Army Air Corps veterans – representing all 10 Flying Fortress crew positions from pilot to tailgunner - were brought here to be reunited with the aircraft in which they helped to preserve liberty and freedom. Spencer Suderman, EAA 650304/IAC 429636, of Santa Clarita, California, set a new world record for inverted flat spins by making 81 spins on March 13, 2014. He started at 23,000 feet and ended at 2,000 feet. Watch video >>

NOTAM AirVenture 2014 NOTAM Now Available For Download
The FAA has released the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), featuring arrival and departure procedures for the 62nd annual fly-in convention July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. The NOTAM, which is in effect July 25-August 4, outlines procedures for the many types of aircraft that fly to Oshkosh for the event, as well as aircraft that land at nearby airports. Read more >>

Four outstanding replica aircraft from the Great War Flying Museum, of Caledon, Ontario, Canada, will participate in EAA's World War I aviation centennial activities at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014. Valdez Valdez STOL Pilot Spotlight: Steve Henry
Steve Henry is looking forward to participating in EAA's Valdez STOL (short takeoff and landing) demonstration at AirVenture this summer, but first he'll compete for the first time at the Valdez, Alaska, STOL competition in May. When you work regularly and consistently on your project, progress happens! We experienced more progress on the EAA staff Zenith CH750 project this week as the exhaust arrived and was attached temporarily to the engine, brake fluid was added and tested (successfully!), the GPS antenna was installed, and continuing prep work was done for paint. Enrollment in Sporty's Course Surpasses 25,000 Young Eagles
This week EAA and Sporty's announced that the more than 25,000 EAA Young Eagles have now enrolled in the online Sporty's Learn to Fly course, which is provided free to Young Eagles to help them pursue aviation interests beyond their first flight. The Sporty's course is part of EAA's Young Eagles Flight Plan - a five-step program to create a clear pathway to aviation. Read more >>

Wisconsin Bill Wisconsin Bill Protecting Private Airport Owners Signed into Law
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker signed SB 321 into law in Madison on April 16, limiting liability exposure for owners of private airports. The law, passed by both legislative branches in February, includes the phrase "recreational aviation" to Wisconsin's recreational land use statute. Read original story >>

Able Flight Able Flight Awards Record Nine New Scholarships
Able Flight, an organization that offers flight training scholarships to people with disabilities, has awarded a record nine new scholarships in 2014 with six recipients set to begin their training in May at Purdue University's Department of Aviation Technology. Read more >>

Homebuilders: We Need Your Input
To complement a recent study by the National Transportation Safety Board, "The Safety of Experimental Amateur-Built Aircraft," EAA is conducting a new survey regarding first flight preparations and Phase I flight tests. Its two-fold purpose is to (1) collect data on actions that E-AB owners take prior to flight testing their aircraft and (2) determine the types of problems that E-AB aircraft experience during Phase I flight tests. Air Races Air Racers 3D Hits Select IMAX Theatres
A new theatrical release of Air Racers 3D from 3D Entertainment Distribution is now showing at select IMAX theaters. Narrated by late actor Paul Walker of Fast and the Furious fame, this is the first IMAX film about the Reno National Championship Air Races and provides an up-close look at the intensity of air racing through the eyes of then-rookie pilot Steve Hinton Jr. with his modified P-51 Mustang Strega. AirDocs Aeromedical Advisory Services in Action
The 150 FAA-qualified medical professionals in EAA's Aeromedical Advisory Program volunteer their time to advise EAA members on how to obtain a medical certificate quickly and efficiently. On occasion, a member is looking for a turnkey service to complete and submit a special issuance application.

Ronald Geertsema, EAA 1011798, had some difficulties this year getting his special issuance renewed. Dr. Greg Pinnell, EAA Lifetime 291897, of AirDocs and EAA's Aeromedical Advisory Program was able to sort out Ron's problem and get him his medical certificate within five days! As an EAA member, Ron received a 10 percent discount off of AirDocs fees to see his application through to issuance.
