Electric Plane Makes First Flight
Airbus Group Innovations made the first flight of its prototype E-Fan electric training aircraft on Friday, April 25, in Bordeaux, France. The all-composite aircraft's twin-ducted, variable-pitch fans are powered by two 30-kilowatt electric motors powered by lithium-ion polymer batteries that the company says will provide up to an hour of flight time. Lockheed Vega World's Only Flying Lockheed Vega Coming to Oshkosh
Those who revel in rare aircraft are in for a real treat at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 as the world's only flying example of the Lockheed's history-making Vega, made famous by such aviation legends as Amelia Earhart and Wiley Post, flies to Wittman Regional Airport for the 62nd annual gathering scheduled for July 28-August 3. OWW Paint Schemes More Than 1,000 Votes Cast for EAA's 'One Week Wonder' Paint Scheme
Now through July 1, you can help choose the paint scheme for the Zenith CH 750 Cruzer that will be built during the seven days of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 as part of the "One Week Wonder" project. More than 1,000 people have already voted for their favorite design among the 10 schemes provided by Scheme Designers. Vote on your favorite by "liking" it on EAA's Facebook page. You can also vote in the EAA Forums. The top three most-liked designs will be displayed in the One Week Wonder tent at EAA AirVenture 2014, where exhibit visitors will cast their votes to select the winner. Read more >>

Matthew Callahan Tubreaux Aviation Flight Training Scholarship Selection
Matthew Callahan, 18-year-old high school senior from Bellevue, Nebraska, is getting the opportunity of a lifetime this June when he’ll travel to Shreveport's Downtown Airport in Louisiana and learn to fly at Tubreaux Aviation. Matt, EAA 863129, was announced last week as recipient of a complete private pilot training experience offered by Tubreaux to a previous EAA Young Eagle between the ages of 18 and 21. The scholarship includes lodging and transportation to and from Shreveport. Read more >>

Ultralight Day Ultralight Day Coming to Pioneer Airport June 14
EAA’s Pioneer Airport will be transformed into a fun fly zone on Saturday, June 14, as up to two dozen ultralights and light aircraft fly to the grass airstrip for Ultralight Day 2014. Members of EAA Ultralight Chapters 1 (Southern Wisconsin) and 75 (North Central Wisconsin) will fly their ultralights, and light-planes to EAA's Pioneer Airport to show the public what fun flying is all about. B-17 EAA B-17 a Hit at AOPA Regional Fly-In
A number of EAA staff members were among the more than 2,500 people attending AOPA's first regional fly-in at the San Marcos Municipal Airport in San Marcos, Texas, on Saturday, April 26. EAA Chairman Jack Pelton was joined by Rick Larsen, vice president of marketing and communications; and Dave Chaimson, vice president of business development; along Nadia Farr, director of donor development; and Trevor Janz, manager of chapters and Eagle Flights. There's still time to participate in EAA's Air Academy in 2014, with limited spots remaining in the Young Eagles (ages 12-13) and Basic (ages 14-15) camp sessions. These incredibly popular summer aviation camps are held in Oshkosh and immerse young people in the exciting world of flight through a variety of educational and hands-on activities. Campers will build, fly, and participate in aviation demonstrations throughout the week as well as experience the thrill of flight in both a Cessna 162 SkyCatcher and Bell 47 helicopter. CAFE Electric Aircraft Symposium Sets Attendance Record
The 8th annual Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS VIII) presented April 25-26 in Santa Rosa, California, by the Comparative Aircraft Flight Efficiency Foundation (CAFE) set an attendance record, according to foundation president, Dr. Brien Seeley. CAF Dallas Executive Airport Is New Home of the CAF
The Commemorative Air Force announced Tuesday it has selected the Dallas Executive Airport (RBD) as the location of its National Airbase and corporate headquarters. The news was announced during a special event held at the airport and comes after a one-year nationwide search that originally considered 23 cities. Read more >>

Basler Basler Flight Service Becomes Sole FBO at KOSH
Wittman Regional Airport announced this week that Basler Flight Service is now the airport's sole fixed-base operator following the FBO's move to integrate Orion Flight Service facilities into its operations. As a result of the consolidation, Basler has become a Shell aviation fuel dealer effective May 1, 2014. Read more >>

Quicksilver Production Begins on Approved Quicksilver Sport L-S2S
The FAA has concluded their audit of the Quicksilver Aeronautics Sport 2S model as a special light-sport aircraft and the model will officially be known as the Sport L-S2S and marketed as the Sport S2SE, the company announced this week. Read more >>

Sunseeker Two-Place Sunseeker Duo Makes First Powered Flights
Solar Flight announced that test flights of the Sunseeker Duo, the first solar-powered airplane with a passenger seat, have been ongoing since it first flew on December 17, 2013, at the company's facilities in Voghera, Italy. The company aims to have the aircraft tested and ready to offer passenger flights by the summer. Read more >>
