EAA to Honor 70th Anniversary of D-Day
The 70th anniversary of the massive D-Day invasion of World War II will be commemorated at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh on June 6-7, including programs with veterans of the Allied offensive that began on June 6, 1944. June 6, marks 70 years since 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. Read more >>

Enter the Ultralight Flying Video Showcase
As of this week we have close to 80 videos submitted to the EAA's Ultralight Flying Video Showcase! Pilots have until July 1, 2014, to submit their clip before a panel of EAA judges narrows the submissions to the top 10. Those videos will be showcased at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh's Fun Fly Zone and be judged based on creativity, overall quality, and the number of "likes" received on YouTube. AirVenture Cup Race Application Period Opens for EAA AirVenture Cup Race
This July, fast airplanes, race pilots, and aviation enthusiasts will once again be descending upon Mitchell Municipal Airport (KMHE) in South Dakota in advance of the 17th annual EAA AirVenture Cup. This year's race is planned to start from KMHE with a mandatory turn point over Mankato, Minnesota (KMKT). Read more >>

EAA Chapters to Play Key Roles at AOPA's Indy Fly-In
A number of EAA chapter members will be on hand volunteering in several key functions when AOPA holds its Regional Fly-In event this Saturday, May 31, at Indianapolis Regional Airport. EAA Chapter 67, of Noblesville, Indiana, will run a pancake breakfast with help from several other Indiana chapters, while EAA Warbirds of America Squadron 3 of Indianapolis hosts EAA's B-17 Aluminum Overcast tour stop that runs from May 30-June 1. Santa Monica Airport Take Action in the Fight for Santa Monica Airport
A citizens' group in Santa Monica, California, is attempting to end the ongoing struggle between Santa Monica's municipal government and the Santa Monica Municipal Airport (KSMO), which the city wants to close. Santa Monicans for Open and Honest Development Decisions, which has received significant sponsorship from AOPA and other aviation associations, started a drive to introduce and pass a ballot measure that would require direct voter approval before the city could close or partially close the airport. EAA Submits Improvements to Flight Testing Manual
EAA submitted comments this week to a proposed revision to FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 90-89, the Amateur-Built Aircraft and Ultralight Flight Testing Handbook. While the initially proposed changes are very minor and were developed with the help of EAA, this was a good opportunity to examine the entire document and suggest updates that bring the AC in-line with current best practices and reference current technology. Ultralight Day Witness Fun Flying at EAA Ultralight Day
Fun flight will be on full display June 14 as up to two dozen ultralights and light planes fly to EAA's Pioneer Airport in Oshkosh for Ultralight Day. Two mass arrivals of aircraft from EAA Ultralight Chapters 1 (Southern Wisconsin) and 75 (North Central Wisconsin) are scheduled between 9-10 a.m., with several flying demonstration and proficiency events taking place in the afternoon. EAA Air Academy Limited Spots Open for Air Academy Young Eagles Camp
There's still time to participate in the 2014 EAA Air Academy, with limited spots remaining in the EAA Young Eagles Camp for young people ages 12 and 13. Presented in a "science camp" format, this unique aviation camp will engage students through hands-on activities, flight simulation, museum tours, and actual flights in a helicopter and airplane. Registration fee includes all camping materials, meals, and lodging in the EAA Air Academy Lodge located on the world-famous EAA AirVenture Museum campus in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Learn more >>
