Flabob Express DC-3 Returns to OSH
The Flabob Express, a DC-3B aircraft that is now used as a learning instrument, will return to Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014, July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport. The Flabob Express, built in 1943 in Long Beach, California, was originally a C-47B staff transport for the U.S. Army. One of 3,364 B versions built by the Douglas Aircraft Company, this aircraft has experienced quite a history. Read more >>

Enjoy Nightly Music Acts on the Plaza at AirVenture
When the sun goes down, the action heats up with musical entertainment on the Plaza Stage at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014. Already announced are headline acts including the legendary Kenny Loggins on opening day July 28, and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 1, to cap EAA's Salute to Veterans Day. Redbird Redbird Flight Sim Competition Heats Up
There's less than a month left to try and earn a free ticket to Oshkosh to compete in the finals of the Redbird Flight Simulations' Flying Challenge Cup. Participants have logged more than 4,500 flights in Redbird sims, with an average of 50 flights per day. Read more >>

Chris Nesin Valdez STOL Pilot Spotlight: Chris Nesin
When Chris Nesin wants to go flying he heads down to Marion County Airport-Brown Field in Jasper, Tennessee, with his dog, a "Heinz 57" breed he named Lenny Bruce; and the pair climb into his 1946 J-3 Cub and fly around picturesque Eastern Tennessee. It's quite a departure from Nesin's day job, fractional corporate pilot of a Cessna Citation Sovereign. Read more >>

Air Show Performers More Top Air Show Performers Added to Lineup
EAA has announced 12 additional acts that have been confirmed to appear at the daily EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 air shows this year. These acts feature a wide variety of aircraft types piloted by expert performers from wing walking to formation flights, unique aircraft ranging from a microjet to vintage and modern biplanes, warbirds, and more. Webinar: Flying Into AirVenture June 11
Pilots who have never flown into Oshkosh for EAA AirVenture or even experienced ones who want a great refresher are invited to attend a free EAA webinar on Wednesday, June 11, "Tips for Flying into EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014," with Fred Stadler, EAA AirVenture NOTAM chairman. Fred will share some hints and tips for reducing your pilot workload, including the special requirements and procedures of the FAA-issued NOTAM. Please register to attend the webinar, which begins at 7 p.m. CDT.

J. Mac McClellan Blog MAC'S BLOG: The FAA Didn't Do It
A reader commented on a recent blog that if the FAA required less safety equipment the price of new airplanes would be a lot lower. At first that makes some sense, but when I thought a moment, it just isn't the case. The FAA really hasn't added many safety requirements for light airplanes, and certainly nothing on the order of automobile safety equipment changes in the last 30 years.

How does the old builder's saying go, "95 percent done with 90 percent left to do"? Well it's not exactly the case with the EAA staff Zenith CH 750 project. We are making strong progress toward completion, but as is always the case, it's just the little details that need to be crossed off the list. Each year thousands of volunteers worldwide introduce nearly 80,000 young people to flight through EAA's Young Eagles. On International Young Eagles Day, Saturday, June 14, more than 5,000 kids are expected to take their first flight in a GA aircraft, expanding their horizons and introducing them to new career paths. Virginia Fly-In Sky Shines Bright on Virginia Fly-In
A spectacular weekend of blue skies and sunshine brought out the colors of about 207 aircraft attending the 17th Virginia Regional Festival of Flight held May 31-June 1, for the seventh year at Suffolk Executive Airport (KSFQ). The Commemorative Air Force Tuskegee Airmen Rise Above exhibit headlined the event, toured extensively before and during the fly-in. Read more >>

D-Day 70th Anniversary D-Day Commemoration
A reminder that EAA will commemorate the 70th anniversary of World War II's D-Day invasion at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh on Friday and Saturday, June 6-7. Included will be programs with veterans of the massive Allied offensive, along with warbird flybys, a wreath presentation, cockpit climbs into museum warbirds, and other activities.

Solar Flight First Two-Person Electric Aircraft Flight By Solar Flight
Solar Flight, maker of the Sunseeker Duo solar-powered aircraft, reports that it achieved the world's first solar-powered flight with two people aboard on May 30. Husband and wife founders Eric and Irena Raymond took off in the aircraft from Solar Flight's test facility near Milan, Italy.

Solar Impulse Solar Impulse 2 Makes Maiden Flight
Solar Impulse 2, the solar-powered electric aircraft created by Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, made its first successful flight on Monday, June 2, from the Payerne aerodrome in Switzerland. This is the airplane that Piccard and Borschberg plan to fly around the world in 2015. Solar Impulse 2's updated technology make it more efficient and reliable to handle long haul flights.
