NASA WB-57F to Appear at AirVenture
EAA this week confirmed that NASA will bring a Martin/General Dynamics WB-57F high-altitude aircraft to Oshkosh this year. Based at Ellington Field near NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, the WB-57F operates in NASA's High Altitude Research Program. The aircraft provides unique, high-altitude (up to 70,000 feet MSL) airborne platforms to United States government agencies and other customers for scientific research, advanced technology development, and testing around the world. Start AirVenture Veterans Day With Free Breakfast
As a part of EAA AirVenture's Salute to Veteran's on Friday, August 1, EAA will host a free breakfast to all veterans to kick off the day's festivities. Reserved for veterans only, the breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. in the Partner Resource Center, located on Waukau Avenue just west of the intersection at Knapp Street Road. Read more >>

Ultralight Flying Video Showcase Deadline Is July 1
Attention all ultralight and lightplane enthusiasts! There are only a few days left to enter EAA's Ultralight Flying Video Showcase for a chance to have your flying adventures broadcast to the world at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014! Pilots have until July 1 to submit their clip to YouTube and email the link to ultralights@eaa.org. When all entries are submitted, a panel of EAA judges will narrow the submissions to the top 10 to be showcased at AirVenture 2014 in the Fun Fly Zone and to be played before movie showings at the Ford Fly-In Theater Sunday through Saturday night. Time Is Running Out to Help 'Pick the Paint!'
There's still time to vote for your favorite paint scheme for the Zenith CH 750 Cruzer that will be built during the seven days of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 as part of the One Week Wonder project. But hurry - the online voting period ends at midnight, July 2. At that time, the top three vote-getters will be displayed in the One Week Wonder tent at AirVenture 2014, where visitors will have the opportunity to cast their votes to select the winner. AirVenture Cup EAA AirVenture Cup Entry Deadline Is July 3
The 17th annual EAA AirVenture Cup Race entry deadline is Thursday, July 3. The event provides builders and pilots an opportunity to race their aircraft in a safe and fun environment to promote general aviation in the communities where the races take place. This year's starting line is in Mitchell, South Dakota. Pilots who wish to compete this year are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible. Homebuilt Patch Homebuilt Patch Honors the Breezy
Perseverance Award dignifies project completions
Every year EAA Homebuilders Headquarters designs a commemorative "I Flew My Homebuilt" patch that is given to all pilots who arrive at AirVenture in a homebuilt aircraft. This year's version honors the 50th anniversary of the Breezy, and all an eligible homebuilder has to do to get one is register at Homebuilders Headquarters, located along the flightline south of the Brown Arch. EAA also has special Perseverance Award plaques for any member who has achieved the significant goal of completing their own aircraft this year, so let us know at registration if you qualify for one.

Goal for 2014: Fly 75,000 Young Eagles, or 10 per pilot. Young Eagles Flown (YTD): 13,524. Pilots who have flown 10+ Young Eagles: 418. Total Young Eagles flown: 1,840,600. Have you flown a Young Eagle this year? Click to learn more.

J. Mac McClellan Blog MAC'S BLOG: The VFR Rain Trap
It's only 36 miles from the Muskegon airport to Grand Rapids. The terrain is flat and both airports have lots of long runways. It's hard to think of an easier flight to make. The terminal forecasts for both airports called for showers in the vicinity but ceiling and visibility were predicted to remain good VFR with viz no lower than 6 miles and ceiling no lower than 4,000 feet for several hours. What pilot looking at the reports of actual weather at both airports, and the forecast for continued good weather at both ends, would think that it would be a problem to make the short flight under VFR?

Chapter 579 EAA Chapter 579 Flies 16,000th Young Eagle
EAA Chapter 579 of St. Charles, Illinois, reached a major milestone on Sunday, June 22, when it marked the 16,000th Young Eagle flown by the chapter during a Young Eagles rally at Aurora Municipal Airport. Pilot Mark Hislop, EAA 619550, provided Zachary Babb, EAA 1072158, of Hinckley, Illinois, with the flight in Hislop's 1973 Cessna P337 Skymaster.

Sean Tucker Essay Contest Winner Receives Young Eagles Flight With Sean D. Tucker
Centerville (Ohio) High School sophomore Alberta Dempsey received the gift of flight and the experience of a lifetime when she flew with EAA Young Eagles Chairman and renowned air show pilot Sean D. Tucker on June 25 in Dayton, Ohio. The flight was the grand prize of the Vectren Dayton Air Show Essay Contest. Read more >>
