Rob Holland Takes Unlimited Title at Nationals
Rob Holland has been on a tear. First, he won the gold medal in the 4-minute freestyle at the World Aerobatic Championships in Foligno, Italy. Soon after, he took the top spot after three flights at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships in Denison, Texas.

I had the honor of watching Rob fly at Nationals, and all I can say is that his craft has become breathtaking. His precision is awe-inspiring and must be witnessed to be believed. IAC members should look for an upcoming feature on Rob in Sport Aerobatics magazine. Until then, enjoy this video.

The 4-minute freestyle program gives the Unlimited pilots a lot of artistic freedom - even allowing them to play with their air show smoke. This year's program at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships was captured by Laurie Zaleski, and these pictures give us a tiny glimpse into the excitement and freedom of the event. Tim Decker and His Pitts S-2B
Featured Air ShowLieutenant Colonel (retired) Tim Decker flies the last Pitts S-2B ever made, and he enjoys soaring in it at air shows across the country. With experience flying the U-2 spy plane, F-117 stealth fighter, and the T-38, Tim still likes his Pitts best. He has more than 6,500 hours logged in both civilian and military planes and clearly enjoys his craft. Watch the video

How About a Little Flight Sim Aerobatics?
Flight InstructionIf the weather is preventing you from strapping into your trusty aerobatic steed, why not fly a little acro from the comfort of your favorite chair? If you have a computer equipped with a flight simulator, you can perform a hammerhead without even spilling the cup of coffee you're enjoying. Scott has a nice online piece that goes over the very basics of configuring your flight simulator for maximum realism and even walks you through a few of your first maneuvers. Read more

Reggie PaulkBy Reggie Paulk, Editor - In the Loop

We're fast approaching the winter months, and there are only three contests left on the calendar as I write this. Anecdotally, it's been a very busy contest season - there seemed to be more contests on the calendar this year than any in the last few.

I had the good fortune of attending Nationals this year, and got to see wonderful people in addition to watching some great flying. One of the perks of this job is that I get to interview our Unlimited National Champion for a feature in Sport Aerobatics magazine. This year Rob Holland took the top spot. Rob's flying is spectacular, and his story should make for interesting reading for anyone who aspires to fly upside down. Look for Rob in the December issue of Sport Aerobatics.

Avoiding the Base-to-Final Turn Accident
With the FAA and EAA's recent emphasis on reducing fatal accidents in the experimental category, this webinar will examine a common type of accident that is very preventable. Gordon Penner will provide simple and clear explanations of the elements leading up to a base-to-final stall/spin accident, how to recognize and stop these elements, and the true nature of stalls and spins that most pilots haven't been taught.

All webinars begin at 7 p.m. CDT unless otherwise noted. To find out more about upcoming EAA Webinars and to register, visit the webinars page.

EAA gratefully acknowledges the support of Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co. for their generous sponsorship of our webinar programs.

The International Aerobatic Club has come to an agreement with EAA to process credit card payments for our members when they order the IAC Achievement Awards. Previously the only option has been to send a check or money order.

All of the application forms for the IAC Achievement Awards program have now been updated to reflect a new option for the applicant to purchase pins, decals, and patches with a credit card. Visit this link for an application.
